Instructions

Calmasol-440 injection is a ready-to-use calcium, magnesium and boric acid infusion used to treat acute hypocalcaemia (milk fever) in cattle, calves, sheep. Manufactured by Interchemie, every millilitre delivers 380 mg calcium gluconate, 60 mg magnesium chloride hexahydrate and 50 mg boric acid, supplied here in a convenient 500 ml bottle for slow intravenous use. It is one of the fastest, most reliable ways to restore blood calcium during a metabolic emergency on the farm.

Key benefits of Calmasol-440

  • Fast correction of acute hypocalcaemia and milk fever (parturient paresis).
  • Triple-action formula: calcium gluconate, magnesium chloride and boric acid.
  • Magnesium helps protect the heart during intravenous calcium delivery.
  • Boric acid improves calcium solubility, so effective doses fit in marginal volumes.
  • Labelled for cattle, calves, sheep.
  • 500 ml multi-dose bottle from a recognised manufacturer, Interchemie.

What is in Calmasol-440?

Each millilitre of solution contains calcium gluconate 380 mg (equivalent to 34.0 mg or 0.85 mmol of Ca²⁺), magnesium chloride hexahydrate 60 mg (equivalent to 7.2 mg or 0.30 mmol of Mg²⁺) and boric acid 50 mg. This balanced 380/60/50 mg per ml composition is the same active formula sold across Europe under names such as Calmafusion, confirming Calmasol-440 as a well-established hypocalcaemia infusion. You can review the full specification on the official Interchemie Calmasol-440 page.

What is Calmasol-440 injection used for?

Calmasol-440 injection is indicated for the treatment of acute hypocalcaemia. Low blood calcium causes muscle weakness, recumbency and, if left untreated, circulatory collapse. Calmasol-440 is also used as an adjunctive therapy for allergies, urticaria, haemorrhagic diathesis and weak uterine contractions (uterine inertia) in cattle, calves, sheep. The calcium gluconate base is valued for its excellent tissue tolerance, while added magnesium shields the heart from the cardiotoxic effects of calcium during intravenous administration, and boric acid increases calcium solubility.

How is Calmasol-440 injection given?

Is given by slow intravenous infusion, ideally over 20–30 minutes, with the solution warmed to body temperature and the animal’s heart monitored throughout. The standard label dose rates are:

  • Cattle (acute hypocalcaemia): 20–30 ml per 50 kg body weight, intravenously
  • Cattle (adjunctive therapy): 15–20 ml per 50 kg body weight, intravenously
  • Calves, sheep and pigs: 3–4 ml per 10 kg body weight, intravenously

These are standard label values and must always be adjusted to the individual animal’s calcium deficit and circulatory status. Should not be used in animals with hypercalcaemia or hypermagnesaemia, calcinosis, chronic renal failure, or at the same time as (or shortly after) intravenous inorganic phosphate solutions. Always follow the manufacturer’s label and consult your veterinarian before treatment.

What is Calmasol-440 injection?

Is an Interchemie calcium, magnesium and boric acid infusion (380/60/50 mg per ml) used to treat acute hypocalcaemia (milk fever) and related conditions in cattle, calves, sheep and pigs.

How is Calmasol-440 administered?

By slow intravenous infusion over 20–30 minutes at the label dose rate, warmed to body temperature and with cardiac monitoring. Hypocalcaemia is a true emergency; the Merck Veterinary Manual notes that diagnosis and recovery in milk fever rely on prompt treatment with intravenous calcium, as explained in its overview of parturient paresis in cows.

How should Calmasol-440 be stored?

Keep the bottle out of the reach of children and animals, and do not use after the printed expiry date.
