Intrafer 200 B12 is an injectable iron and vitamin B12 supplement, manufactured by Interchemie, that prevents and treats iron-deficiency anaemia in calves and is also used by horse and camel owners across the GCC. Each millilitre of this dark-brown sterile solution supplies 200 mg of iron (as iron dextran) and 200 µg of cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12), delivering a full course of iron in a single intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.

What does Intrafer 200 B12 contain?

Each mL contains 200 mg of iron as iron dextran and 200 µg of cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) in a sterile aqueous solution preserved with phenol. It is supplied in a 100 mL amber glass bottle.

What is Intrafer 200 B12 used for?

Intrafer 200 B12 is a parenteral iron dextran solution registered for the prophylaxis and treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia in young livestock. Iron is the central building block of haemoglobin, the pigment in red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body. The added cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) supports red-cell formation, helps correct B12-deficiency anaemia, and stimulates appetite and energy metabolism.

How is Intrafer 200 B12 given?

Intrafer 200 B12 is administered by intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Always follow the dose printed on the product label and the directions of your veterinarian, because the correct amount depends on the species, age and bodyweight of the animal.

• Calves: 2–4 mL by subcutaneous injection during the first week after birth.
• Horses and camels: regional suppliers commonly recommend 2–4 mL once, repeated after 10–15 days if required.

Inject into a clean, healthy site using sterile technique. Note that iron preparations such as this one temporarily discolour muscle tissue at the injection site, and any leakage of the solution can leave a lasting stain on skin or hair — a known and harmless property of iron dextran. Keep the bottle in its carton, away from light, and do not use it after the printed expiry date.

Can horses and camels be given Intrafer 200 B12?

Yes —  Iron and vitamin B12 injections are widely used in equine and camel medicine across the UAE and wider GCC to support performance animals recovering from anaemia, heavy parasite burdens, illness or intensive training. Because this is an extra-label use, the dose and frequency for horses and camels should always be set by your veterinarian.

How does it correct anaemia?

Iron is essential for making haemoglobin, the molecule red blood cells use to carry oxygen. By injecting a concentrated dose of iron dextran together with vitamin B12, the product rapidly replenishes the body’s iron stores and supports the production of new, healthy red blood cells.

Are there any side effects?

The injection temporarily colours muscle tissue, and leakage can cause persistent discoloration of the skin. Using correct injection technique minimises leakage. Discuss any concerns, including use in pregnant or very young animals, with your veterinarian.

How should it be stored?

Store the bottle in the dark at 15–25 °C. Unopened, it has a shelf life of three years; once broached, use it within the period stated on the label.
